Wine Cellar and Porto Walking Tour

Join Reid on this bonus day on September 23, 2023 for a walking tour of Porto and wine cellar tour. Join us for one or both of these add-on experiences before our holiday together officially begins!

If you would like to participate in these tour options, you will need to arrange your own accommodations for September 23, as well as any transportation needs to participate.

Walking Tour of Porto

The city of Porto is nothing short of magical! On a 3 hour walking tour with a local host you’ll discover the local way of life, history, and culture of this UNESCO World Heritage city.

See the Sao Bento Train Station, Clerigos Tower, and Rua de Flores to get a sense of where Porto came from. Learn about tucked away treasures most tourists walk right past. Our host will be a registered, professional tour guide who has a unique story to tell, and you’ll see the city through their eyes.

It will just be our group on this tour, so we’re able to be flexible in what we see and do. We’ll pass by medieval walls, stunningly beautiful churches, incredible tile work, and stop to sample some of the city’s famous treats.

The historic areas of Porto are paved with cobblestone, and there can be some pretty hilly streets. Wear comfortable shoes, and bring your cameras. Tours are rain or shine, but any rain that time of year will be sporadic and light.

Minimum of 6 people. Tour will begin approximately at 10:00 from a central location. Registration details available soon.

Port Wine Cellar Tour in Porto

A visit to a Port Wine Lodge is a memorable experience. The port lodges are very much the heart of the port wine business, many dating back for hundreds of years.

We will visit a genuine working lodge where you will walk amongst hundreds if not thousands of barrels and vats where port wine is aging, until it’s ready to be bottled.

The tour will be led by a staff member who will teach us about the history of the company as well as the production process of port wines. You’ll learn the difference between Tawny and Ruby Ports, and about their flagship Vintage Ports.

The tour will conclude with a tasting of several port wines. Additional tastings will be available for purchase if you want to sample other wines as well. And you will have the opportunity to purchase your favorites. This is an excellent opportunity to go home with wines that are difficult to find and cost much more in the U.S.

The tour will take approximately 1.5 hours. The tour includes a tasting of at least two port wines. Registration details available soon.
